- Abstract
The artistic expression of singing involves a combination of language, voice, and music. Singing uses the same systems of sound production that speech does: thus, in theory, if one can speak, one can sing. However, singing is often regarded as an activity reserved only for certain people with particular innate qualities. It is important to support learning singing so that increasing numbers of people can take pleasure in its practice, since singing leads to notable beneficial effects on physical and socioemotional health. The study of the anatomical, linguistic and motor differences between speech and singing, as well as the existing differences between singing types, styles and degrees of difficulty, can become a valuable tool for offering different perspectives on this subject and thus incentivising and facilitating access to singing.
