Faithfulness towards the text was naturally not the mayor focus of catenae authors - they tend to reshape their sources rather generously in different manners. The situation becomes even more complex when taking into account that later catenae were often composed not from original works but already from catenae material. The article examines the difficulties an editor who can only rely on these late catenae is facing and to which degree if at all we can approximate the original text.
