The article discusses the history of the scholarly field of physical anthropology, focusing on issues of racial and visual bias. Topics considered include American anthropologist Samuel Morton, author of the nineteenth-century works "Crania Americana" and "Crania Aegyptiaca," the human remains known as Kennewick Man discovered in Washington state in 1996, and the history of comparative anatomy.
