- Abstract
The article discusses the political aspects of the discovery of oil reserves in Uganda's Lake Albert region. Particular focus is given to the impact of Ugandan oil production on the policy of decentralization of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his political party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM). An overview of the history of oil in Uganda, including the oil exploration company Shell Oil's drilling efforts and the Ugandan government's survey of the Lake Albert Region in the 1980s, is provided.
