- Abstract
The article focuses on the significance of National Board for Professional Teacher Standards' (NBPTS) certification standards to the professional development of music teachers in the U.S. It states that NBPTS is the national organization that sets standards for advanced teaching excellence and evaluates teachers who applied for advanced certification. The institution started in 1994 with two certificate offerings but standards and assessments were offered to music teachers in 2001 including Early Adolescent through Young Adult Music and Early and Mid-Childhood Music. The institution provides reflective and analytical portfolio that enhances its instructional strategies or performance skills.
