- Title
Phenotypic screening: Fishing for neuroactive compounds.
- Authors
Jenkins, Jeremy L.; Urban, Laszlo
- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the study by David Kokel and colleagues on the behavior-based approach to neuroactive small molecules discovery in the zebrafish. He mentions that the reproducible photomotor response (PMR) of zebrafish embryos to light stimulation provides a readout that classifies the main indications of human central nervous system (CNS) drugs. Further, he emphasizes the use of zebrafish as a model system for drug safety and as a wide range of disease indications.
