- Abstract
The article reports on the installation of Stephen S. Wise as rabbi of the Beth Israel Congregation in Portland, Oregon on September 15, 1995. During the ceremony, his initial sermon focused on the covenant between the congregation and himself. The event was attended by several ministers of city churches including Reverend W. P. Lord, Reverend Edgar P. Hill and Reverend A. W. Ackerman. Solomon Hirsch, president of the congregation, pledged their support and encouragement to Rabbi Wise. The installation sermon and charge to the rabbi-elect was delivered by Rabbi Jacob Voorsanger of Temple Emanuel in San Francisco, California. Rose Bloch Bauer arranged the musical program for the ceremony.
