- Abstract
"Mormon Visual Culture and the American West" by Nathan Rees is a book that explores the visual culture of nineteenth-century Mormonism through the analysis of C.C.A. Christensen's Mormon Panorama. The author challenges misconceptions about early Mormon art and demonstrates how Mormonism developed a unique theology of visuality. The book also examines the representation of Native American peoples and the role of images in educating future generations of Mormons. It concludes by discussing the lingering influence of nineteenth-century Mormon visual culture in the present day. This book provides valuable insights into the intersections of art, faith, and culture in nineteenth-century America.
