- Abstract
The article presents the first attempt to overthrow Queen Lili‘uokalani and establish a republic in place of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i came not at the hands of the Committee of Safety on January 17, 1893, but starting on April 10, 1892, under the leadership of Robert William Wilcox and Volney Vallancourt Ashford. Topics include the arrests could have been expected, and Wilcox had previously led a failed armed rebellion in 1889 sought to reverse the changes imposed under the Constitution of 1887.
