- Abstract
The article discusses Francisca Lopes, a member of a group of Moors tried by the Inquisition for crypto-Islamism in Portugal in the 16th century. Reference is made to concepts of community, Islam, and identity among this group and the broader Moorish community. Topics discussed include the concept of emotional community, background on Francisca Lopes, including her baptism and trial by the Inquisition, and background on the process of the Inquisition trial, including the role of testimonies given by the accused.
