- Abstract
Computational and theoretical analysis of the ways to reduce the consumption of natural uranium in VVER-type reactors with an erbium burnable absorber in reusing spent fuel is presented. Calculations are carried out using a simplified model of fuel burnup in a reactor with partial refueling without fuel assembly rearrangement. A comparative analysis of the consumption of natural uranium when using gadolinium and erbium as burnable absorbers for options with uranium and REMIX fuel is carried out. For the options using REMIX fuel, the loss in natural uranium consumption in using erbium compared to the option with gadolinium is shown to diminish by 50%.
