The Maiden's Consent (El sí de las niñas), or Women's Sense and Sensibility in Absolutist Spain (1806).
- Authors
Maturana, Antonio Calvo
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the novel "Sense and Sensibility," by Jane Austen is presented. It performs an exercise of comparative literature to address how the Spanish contemporary fiction represent the novel's main concerns. The article also reflects whether this comparison could offer an interesting perspective on the novel and whether this comparison could be used to measure Austen's conservatism or progressivism about key notions like love or obedience.
