- Title
THE SMILING FACES OF CONTEMPORARY HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA.
- Authors
RIGGS, DAMIEN W.; PATTERSON, AMY
- Abstract
The article discusses the representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in contemporary media which are described to be homophobic and transphobic. It notes that such representations tend to have a more sophisticated and subtle approach and that bisexual people are mostly ignored while discrimination against transgender people is evident. It recalls two public service announcements (PSAs) in the U.S. wherein the association of the term gay with the term bad is deemed as insulting.
