The article focuses on the vocabulary and the oratorical characteristics of members of the House of Commons, the lower house of the Parliament of Great Britain, during the 19th century. Topics mentioned include the importance of the art of speech at that time both for politicians and religious leaders, the ability of parliamentarians to recognize the voices of other members of the House of Commons, and the definition of a social identity through the quality of a voice.
