- Abstract
In this article, we will investigate the eastern frontier of Mendoza in the eighteenth century. We begin with the hypothesis that the frontier space under the jurisdiction of that city extended towards the south, involving a portion of the so-called gran frontera sur, but also towards the east, in the surroundings of Tunuyan River and reaching the natural boundary given by Desaguadero River; in addition, those colonial authorities were alert about imminent attacks from that spot and in the pursuit of maintaining the unsubordinated indigenous groups controlled, they devised and implemented diverse measures such as the installation of reductions a nd d efensive f ortifications. We w ill analyze Corocorto's post and we will give account of its particularities in the eastern frontier as well as its intervention in the frontier policy. To that end, we will use specific bibliography; unpublished documentary sources housed in the Archivo Histórico de la Provincia de Mendoza and sources available on the Family Search website.
