- Abstract
The article "A Constructivist Sociology of Social Problems" by Helge Peters emphasizes the importance of a constructivist approach in the sociology of social problems. The author argues that social problems are constructed in social interactions and are not objectively given. Peters discusses various positions and works on social problems and distinguishes constructivist approaches from objectivist ones. He emphasizes the role of social movements in the construction of social problems and notes that with increasing democratization, the diversity of constructed problems increases. However, the text criticizes some aspects of Helge Peters' book, such as the use of Jakob von Uexküll's theories without mentioning his involvement in National Socialism. The question is also raised whether a constructivist sociology of social problems should also include the examination of the mechanisms and conditions of problem emergence.
