- Abstract
The article reports on the isolation and characterization of an alcohol dehydrogenase gene from the octylphenol polythoxylate degrader Pseudomonas putida S-5. ADH1 sequence has signature patterns characteristic of type III alcohol oxidases and a FAD-binding motif. The three major groups of microbial alcohol dehydrogenases are NAD(P)-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase; NAD(P)-independent alcohol dehydrogenase; and FAD-dependent alcohol oxidase.
