- Abstract
The article explores the literary ideology of Chinua Achebe, the father of modern African literature. Topics discussed include Achebe's declaration of himself as a protest writer with restraint, the selection of elements of his writing for rhetorical effectiveness and the style he employed in his memoir "There Was a Country." Also included is an analysis of Achebe's prose in "Things Fall Apart."
