- Abstract
The article presents a survey on bilingual educational programs in Hostos Community College, in New York City, and Essex County College, in Newark, New Jersey related to Hispanic minorities. The bilingual programs at Hostos and Essex colleges were formulated for Hispanic students so that they can pursue their studies in their Spanish language According to article authors that in 1977 the National Association for Bilingual Education presented bilingual curriculum plan for community colleges at post-secondary level. The bilingual education programs of Hosts Community College include two courses on Spanish for native speakers for those students who have poor knowledge of the language. The Eessex college has comparatively lesser Hispanic students than Hostos College and students have to appear for English proficiency test even after they get admission as bilingual. The basic component of Eesex's college program is same as of Hostos college and the English as a Second Language section also has its own director but it is a part of English department.
