In this article the author reflects on author Ferris Greenslet's views regarding the submission of a first manuscript novel by novelist Willa Cather to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Co. Topics discussed include the publishing of Cathers book "Alexander's Bridge," the re-work of Cather's book "The Song of the Lark" which was asked by the publisher and Greenslet's recollection of Cather's work.
