- Abstract
The article talks about the use of exoticism and autoexoticism in the travelogues of the 19th century women writers on Cyprus and the representation of race, religion, and gender in their writings. Topics discussed include the books "Eastern Pilgrims: The Travels of Three Ladies" and "Through Cyprus" by Agnes Smith; the cultural syncretism of Cyprus in her books; and the book "Our Home in Cyprus" by Esmé Scott- Stevenson.
