- Abstract
The article presents topics that were discussed at the Presidential Address on January 9, 2015 during the Modern Language Association (MLA) Annual Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia. Topics discussed include liberalization of the nation's immigration policies in 1970s, perception of northeastern U.S states teachers of English, French and Spanish towards teachers of classics and challenges of immodesty experienced by Native people to claim fluency in their language.
