The article presents an epidemiologic study on recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) in a Thai dental patient population. Recurrent RAS is characterized by painful, recurrent, single or multiple ulcers of the oral mucosa. The ulcers are usually round or ovoid. clearly defined and have a depressed base covered with a yellowish slough surrounded by an erthematous margin. Three distinct forms of RAS have been indicated, minor, major and herpetiform. The prevalance of RAS in this population was 46.7 percent.
