- Abstract
The effect of the relative fraction of powder of steel 4605 (0.42% C, 2.15% Ni, 0.49% Mo, 0.1% Si) mixed with a polymer binder in injection molding of billets (the MIM technology) on their tensile mechanical properties, hardness, density and toughness is studied. The polymer binder is based on high-pressure polyethylene (HDPE), paraffin wax (PW) and stearic acid (SA). It is shown that the mechanical properties, the density and the toughness increase with the proportion of the powder in the working mixture (feedstock), and the combination of the strength and formability is the best at 62 vol.% powder in the feedstock.
