- Abstract
With the expansion of the type and scope of aquatic products trade between China and Vietnam, this trade is inter-industry trade, there are great differences between China and Vietnam, such as: the support of national policies, natural resource endowments, etc., compared with Vietnam, the international competitiveness of China's aquatic products is relatively weak, and the market competition is particularly fierce. The export trade specialization index, market share index and indicative comparative advantage index were used to calculate the import and export competitiveness of aquatic products between China and Vietnam from 2010 to 2020. The results showed: (1) China's aquatic products trade competitiveness is generally lower than that of Vietnam; (2) 0304 products (fresh refrigerated and frozen fish) in China and Vietnam have an important impact on the global market for similar products, and the export of 0304 aquatic products accounts for more than 30% of global exports; (3) China's 0304 and 0305 aquatic products (salted, dried smoked fish) have very strong competitiveness in international trade (TSC is close to 1), which can be said to be a net exporter of 0304 and 0305, Vietnam is almost a net exporter of four types of products, but 0307 products (fish and crustacean soft products) show a rapid downward trend; (4) China and Vietnam have high trade complementarity, but have competitive advantages with each other. Although China's aquatic products export potential is huge, it has been rejected by the technical trade barriers of developed countries, and the export competitiveness of aquatic products is weak, compared with Vietnam and other neighbor countries. Based on this, China should develop its own aquatic products upgrading plan to change the current predicament. Therefore, while the domestic aquaculture industry develops, it is necessary to further strengthen the trade in aquatic products with Vietnam, increase the export trade volume of aquatic products in China, reduce the trade deficit, realize the balance of import and export and trade volume of aquatic products between China and Vietnam as soon as possible, and promote the stable, healthy and sustainable development of aquatic products trade between the two countries.
