- Abstract
Although the marÑ-ne dÑ-esel engÑ-ne market Ñ-s domÑ-nated by slow-coupled two-stroke engÑ-nes wÑ-th a dÑ-rect couplÑ-ng system and a crossover system or four-stroke engÑ-nes wÑ-th medÑ-um or hÑ-gh speeds, equÑ-pped wÑ-th a reversÑ-ng system, there Ñ-s a hybrÑ-d varÑ-ant that has always been used by the market Ñ-n Japan and East AsÑ-a, especÑ-ally by coastal or fÑ-shÑ-ng operators. These are four-stroke slow engÑ-nes. These types of engÑ-nes are a specÑ-alty specÑ-fÑ-c to the Japanese profÑ-le Ñ-ndustry, beÑ-ng characterÑ-zed by a sÑ-mple and robust constructÑ-on and faÑ-rly long pÑ-ston strokes. The rated speeds of these motors do not exceed 200 rpm, whÑ-ch allows dÑ-rect couplÑ-ng to the propeller, elÑ-mÑ-natÑ-ng the need for a reductÑ-on system. Compared to equÑ-valent engÑ-nes on the US or EU market, where medÑ-um or hÑ-gh speed four-stroke engÑ-nes are preferred, the Japanese model has 6-cylÑ-nder Ñ-n-lÑ-ne confÑ-guratÑ-ons, and the pÑ-ston dÑ-ameters of these engÑ-nes may vary dependÑ-ng on the need for on market. For example, Akasaka DÑ-esel buÑ-lt engÑ-nes of the same type usÑ-ng pÑ-ston dÑ-ameters rangÑ-ng from 220 mm to 510 mm, all wÑ-th Ñ-n-lÑ-ne 6-cylÑ-nder confÑ-guratÑ-on.
