- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents the results of research on the mental budgeting of unplanned purchases during shopping trips. It focuses on the concept of in-store slack, which is an amount of money that is mentally allocated for unplanned items. An overview of related previous studies is provided, along with details of the research protocol, which included a field study and an analysis of budget deviation. It was found that in-store slack accounted for consistent patterns in shopping behavior, and induced a multiplier effect in impulsive shoppers.
