Elaborates on the role of Chilean mining laws during the first copper cycle (1865-80) based on the history of mining property in Chuquicamata. The article also analyzes the mining industry's historic journey from the exploitation of the mines by private companies until the incorporation of the Chile Exploration Company in 1912, whose previously unpublished statutes of incorporation are printed here.
