- Abstract
An essay is presented which discusses the relationship between housing developments in forest areas and wildfires near Denver, Colorado from the 1850s through the 20th century, often referencing the author's personal experiences in firefighting. An overview of the U.S. Forest Service's management of forest fires, including challenges posed by an increased population in wilderness areas, is provided.
