- Title
Helping People Out.
- Authors
BERLINGER, NANCY
- Abstract
The author offers her views about the practice of physician-assisted suicide (PAS) or physician-assisted death (PAD). She cites the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Paradigm for documenting patients' end-of-life treatment preferences as an example of a guidelineable policy in some U.S. states. She comments on presenting the ethical arguments for and against permitting PAS/PAD. According to the author, it is important to be clear about what it means to help people out during this stage of life.
