- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents a profile of Queen Isabel I of Spain, describing her strong will, devout faith and the cultural and political importance of her marriage to Ferdinand II of Aragon. The central values of Isabel's faith, piety and justice, are analyzed as the very initial seeds of human rights in Europe and across the world. The queen's inclinations toward the protection of human freedom and clemency are analyzed in light of her Catholic faith. Isabel's political influence, guided not only by her status as queen but as a woman and a Catholic, is marked by Christian morals and represents a fundamental aspect of Spanish culture that was relayed to the Americas when Isabel commissioned the voyages of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus.
