Hoya carnosa--Is it allergenic?
- Authors
Rothe, A.
- Abstract
A great variety of plants are known allergens, but there is no evidence regarding Hoya carnosa. The genus hoya, named after the English gardener, Thomas Hoy, belongs to the family asclepiadaceae and comprises approximately 200 species. A 25 year old gardener developed a papular dermatitis of the hands and forearms. However, she said that she had first had dermatitis of the hands after tying tendrils of Hoya carnosa cultivar variegata for about a month during her apprenticeship. Allergic reaction to Hoya carnosa seems proven after this case study.
