Turpentine in paint brush cleaner.
- Authors
Calnan, C. D.
- Abstract
A man had an attack of vesicular dermatitis on sides of fingers, front of wrists and lower forearms. Examination showed a dry, red, scaly dermatitis of the fingers and slightly on the palms. He had worked for most of his life as a bank messenger and retired 8 months ago. Since retiring he had done a lot of home decorating, which involved wallpapering, painting and cleaning. He did not use rubber gloves until after the dermatitis began. He used a proprietary brand of Solve cleaner for his paint brushes. Enquiry from the manufactures revealed that the Solve cleaner contains 8.7% Portuguese turpentine. This was evidently the cause of his attack of dermatitis.
