- Abstract
This article discusses about the dermal sensitization potential of 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1, 3-diol or Bronopol. This work showed a dose-response relationship; the response decreased to zero at an induction concentration of 2 %, a level considerably in excess of that normally used. This study examines in more detail the human skin sensitization potential of Bronopol under specific conditions. This work suggests that false positives may have occurred in the earlier study, caused by the use of concentrations of Bronopol above the irritancy threshold or uneven trituration of the agent in the vehicle. It can be concluded that, under conditions of this specific test, no evidence of sensitization was observed.
