- Abstract
The article discusses the first record of leaf rust on a poplar hybrid, Populus alba x glandulosa, which was caused by Melampsora species in Korea. It states that the Korean Institute of Forest Genetics developed the poplar hybrid in 1965 for both urban landscaping use, and hillside afforestation. In September 2006, leaf rust was discovered in a poplar plantation at Anyang, Korea. The disease dispersed from tree to tree and the infected ones defoliated early. The leaves of the trees were observed having the initial symptoms of orange pustule appearance in its undersides. An overview of the conducted tests that confirms the presence of the Melampsora populnea species on the poplar hybrid is depicted.
