- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Researching the recognition of Physical Education for the school community is a recurrent action within the scientific/academic subfield oƒ the area, especially in recent decades. This process is justified, mainly, with regard to the legitimacy of the discipline as a curricular component, its contents and the perceptions of the agents who are part of it. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the scientific production published in periodicals of Physical Education, in the period 1997-2018, which address the theme of School Physical Education (SPE) in Brazil, from the perspective of the teacher of basic education. METHODS: It is a research characterized as a state oƒ knowledge, which portrays the scientific production on the present theme of 14 journals in the field of Physical Education. For the searches of articles, the descriptor School Physical Education was used. After surveying the productions, 35 articles were identified, which were analyzed following the thematic analysis method. RESULTS: From the analysis of the articles, three categories of analysis emerged: a) profile of the main authors who approach SPE from the perspective of the school teacher; b) methodological procedures presented in the production on SPE; and, c) main themes that portray SPE from the perspective of the school teacher. CONCLUSION: It is noted that the surveys found portray more issues related to barriers in the educational process than facilitators. However, there are indications of coping with such barriers to a significant SPE for their school community.
