- Abstract
This article reports on seed dressing trials in Essex and the Isle of Ely in England to study the control of wheat bulb fly in winter wheat. Two trials were set up in November 1965, one on a clay-loam in Essex with an autumn egg population assessed at 4.5 million per acre, the other on a peaty loam near Whittlesey with an egg population of the same order. The organophosphorus materials performed similarly on both soil types, the N-2790 granule treatment giving better control than the dieldrin seed dressing. The N-2790 seed dressing also gave good control at both sites, but control in the later stages of the attack was no better than with dieldrin seed dressing. The Bromophos seed dressing showed some activity but did not give control comparable to dieldrin. Dieldrin seed dressing gave better control than the lindane dressing especially on the peaty loam site.
