- Abstract
The article discusses the possible correlation between sugar beet yellows incidence and sunspot activity Great Britain. Sugar beet yellows and mild yellows are the most damaging and prevalent viruses affecting sugar beet in Great Britain. The estimates of yellows incidence in crops have been made since 1946 in June, July, August and September. Most of the diseased plants recorded in June were almost certainly infected by viruliferous aphids that flew into the root crop from virus-infected overwintering hosts. The further increase in the number of diseased plants is apparently because aphids spread virus from the initially infected plants in the root crop to others, for the increase in virus yellows incidence from month to month is closely correlated with its earlier incidence.
