- Title
FORECASTING THE SEVERITY OF SUGAR BEET YELLOWS.
- Authors
Hurst, G. W.
- Abstract
This article focuses on the forecasting of the severity of sugar beet yellows virus in Great Britain. The incidence of yellows in sugar beet can be fairly accurately forecasted from the very simple parameter of the average temperature in February. The March and April temperatures sometimes improve the forecast, but rarely is the forecast at the end of February seriously wrong. A relationship is established between the incidence of sugar beet yellows virus in summer and temperature anomalies earlier in the year. In particular, air temperatures in late winter and early spring usually constitute a good pointer to the subsequent disease level.
