The article explores the participation of Mormons in the grand jury in Hancock County, Illinois, from 1839 to 1845. They were invited to participate in both grand and petit juries in the county. The impact of this jury participation on the relationship between Mormons and their neighbors is discussed, as well as the concern over jury bias in cases handled by the Illinois Supreme Court during the period.
