- Abstract
The article discusses nuclear weapons proliferation and the nuclear order as of early 2014. It examines the history of nuclear arms control efforts during the Cold War between the U.S. and Soviet Union, the establishment of second-strike nuclear forces as a deterrent, and verification outlets such as the organization the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The article also discusses the nuclear fuel cycle, the possibility of nations such as North Korea, Iran, and Syria obtaining nuclear weapons, and the international reaction to possible nuclear strikes.
