- Abstract
Adolescence represents a developmental period of increased risk for a range of traumatic events, with a number of youth going on to develop stress-sensitive disorders such as acute stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Relative to both adults and children, adolescents are at the greatest risk for experiencing trauma, and prevalence for PTSD among adolescents has been estimated to range from 3% to 57%.
