- Abstract
Ash trees (Fraxinus sp.) in Colombia are affected by sanitary problems such as phytoplasmas of group 16SrRNA VII. To try to overcome the difficulty associated to working with large trees, essays to find alternative plant hosts were performed to try to improve the accessibility to these pathogens. In this study, inoculation tests of phytoplasmas of Urapan were performed, allowing free insect visit on four plant species of families Solanaceae y Apiaceae as potential alternative hosts. A large proportion of the Apium graveolens plants exposed to insects (86%) resulted in infection with phytoplasmas according to the symptoms that developed, test DAPI and molecular tests. A smaller proportion of plants exposed of Nicotiana tabacum (50%) and Nicotiana debneyi (10%) presented symptoms associated with phytoplasmas and were DAPI positive, meanwhile exposed Lycopersicum esculentum plants were not infected. Observations of DAPI tests showed that in infected plants, phytoplasmas did not show a marked tendency to concentrate in any particular tissue.
