- Abstract
The increase in the prevalence of Eating Disorders (EDs), as well as the difficulty of treating such disorders, characterized, among other factors, by a high treatment abandonment rate, defines this problem as being of great interest at clinical level. The present study describes intervention in the case of a 24-year-old woman with ED. She had a bulimia problem lasting more than four years, and a poor response to cognitive-behavioral treatment with pharmacotherapy. She also suffered anxiety crises, and emotional and sleep disorders. The intervention was based on Functional Analytical Psychotherapy (FAP), with a total of 40 clinical sessions over 20 months of treatment, in addition to two face-to-face follow-up sessions and another telephone follow-up one year after the end of the intervention. The results of the pre/post measures of the different questionnaires showed significant changes, with AAQ scores of 47 at the beginning and 31 at the end, and BDI-II 19 indicating moderate depression and 8 at the end, with normal scores. The EOSS total score was 210 at the beginning and 100 at the end, proving normal. The reports of the patient and her family indicate that there have been no further problems related to ED.
