- Abstract
The Journal of Romance Philology published a book review on the work "Practices of Law in Boccaccio's 'Decameron'" by Pia Claudia Doering. The book is a legal-historical and literary analysis of Boccaccio's medieval novella collection "Decameron". It examines the complex relationship between law and literature and analyzes thirteen novellas that feature legal figures and legal issues. The book provides insights into legal history and sheds light on the legal criticism in the Decameron. It addresses various categories of novellas that deal with conflicts between lawyers and non-lawyers, legal methods of truth-finding, and the relationship between the recognition of truth and justice in punishment. However, the review points out that the classification of some novellas into categories could be problematic.
