- Abstract
Music Therapy can be a powerful tool in expressing grief, as it can facilitate the expression of mourning and loss, which aid in the process of bereavement (O'Callaghan and Michael, 2016). This case study presents the results of twelve music therapy sessions with a teenager who was struggling with the loss of his father. The primary therapeutic goal was to help him express his emotions in a safe setting and help him process his grief (McFerran, Roberts and O'Grady, 2010; O'Callaghan and Michael, 2016). Given the client's age and musical preferences, the therapist, under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Warner, decided to include the use of technology to better communicate musically. Specifically, most of the sessions included digital devices such as a synthesizer keyboard for improvisation, and a tablet for receptive approaches.
