- Abstract
Recent literature on economic growth considers effective and efficient governance practice as an important factor to accelerate the economic growth. Therefore, this study examines the impacts of governance on the economic growth of selected SAARC countries namely Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal by covering the period from 2002 to 2017. Additionally, trade openness, financial development and total population are employed as controlled variables. Fixed Effects (FE), Random Effects (RE) and Generalized Least Square (GLS) estimators are used for the empirical analysis. The outcomes indicate that governance significantly enhances the economic growth of these selected SAAARC countries. Similarly, total population is found to have positive and significant impacts on the economic growth. This study recommends the policy formulators and government of these developing countries to improve the quality of governance and also invest in human capital to achieve substantial economic growth to combat the macroeconomic challenges.
