- Abstract
The 21st century has been seen as the century of innovation, interconnectivity and global citizenship. Unfortunately conflicts, unrest and terrorism have been key aspects of 21st century for the people of Pakistan. Despite serious efforts to bring peace and harmony, the people of Pakistan have not succeeded in securing a safe and protected environment for them. In this situation the schools have the most significant role to play in developing a spirit of fraternity and universality in the young generation. Prevailing terrorism in the country indicates that there may be some deficiency in the education system of Pakistan in developing in the students the spirit of empathy and respect for the human rights. We can combat extremism through peaceful and harmonious social order based on fair and just principles where everyone has equal opportunities to flourish and every man is loved and taken care of. The most important factor responsible for changing and shaping the nation is the education system of that nation. So, education for social justice may play a vital role in bringing down the radicalism and fanatism. Therefore, this study was conducted to know the effectiveness of schools in delivering education for social justice. Mixed method approach was adopted to achieve the objectives of the study. The data were collected from the head teachers, teachers and students of 300 schools selected through stratified random sampling method from three divisions of Punjab. The data were also collected through focus group discussion of educationists. SPSS software was used for analysis of quantitative data.
