- Title
The Spectres of Abstraction and the Place of Photography.
- Authors
Cunningham, David
- Abstract
The article discusses aspects of abstraction in photography. The author talks about artist Robert Macfarlane's definition of landscape writing as a mode of attention tied to a compelling particularity of vision that has its own tradition in photography. He mentions that Macfarlane believes that lyricism is a function of detail, and not of abstraction. He also looks into Martin Heidegger's essay on the origin of the work of art and his idea that art is originally and the becoming and happening of truth.
