- Abstract
Experimental densities and viscosities were measured over the partial mole fraction range for the binary mixture of (1,2-pentanediol; 2,4-pentanediol; 1,5-pentanediol )+ water mixtures at 293.15K using pycnometers Wood-Brusie type and Ubbelohde viscometers respectively. Thermodynamic interactions of isomeric pentanediols in water have been studied using the experimental results of density and viscosity at the temperature of 293.15K. From the density data and from the viscosity data, viscosity deviation Δη and excess Gibbs free energy of activation ΔG# of viscous flow are investigated. The dependence of the viscosity B-coefficient on concentration is analized in terms of the relative position of the hydroxyl groups. The systems studied exhibited very strong association due to hydrogen bonding between OH groups.
